It is hoped that the recommendations resulting from the workshops have provided attendees, and many researchers throughout the world, with sound project ideas that could result in significant reductions in capital and operating costs of solvent extraction plants.
To date, four Solvent Extraction Workshops have been held, all in Canada:
The Workshops have been styled after the very successful Gordon Research Conferences
on various aspects of chemistry and engineering that have been held in the USA for a number of years. Usually the meetings are by invitation only, and this has been the case with the Solvent Extraction Workshops. At each workshop,
attendance has been limited to approximately 75 or less, providing an informal format for discussion.
The initial list of possible invited "experts" for such a Workshop was assembled by members of the International Committee for Solvent Extraction, and the succeeding invitation lists included those as well as additional names as a result of meetings at conferences as well as visits at plants, research institutions and universities.
The workshops are operated on a not-for-profit basis. |
